The longest running comedy club in the North East, The Hyena, is to launch a weekly gong show.
Going…Going…Gong! will take place every Monday from 13 October and is Newcastle’s first ever regular gong show.
Organiser and compere Si Buglass said: “Gong shows are massively popular elsewhere in the country. They are incredible fun to watch as the audience members themselves get to decide whether the comedian gets to finish or has to leave the stage early – but they can be terrifying to perform on.”
Buglass tells us that there will also be a few spots each night for any members of the audience who feel brave enough to give stand-up a shot.
Each show will also be opened by a professional comic, with Steffen Peddie from BBC2 sitcom Hebburn playing the opening night.
Tickets for the show are £2 – the same price as the nearby Stand Comedy Club beginners’ night.
