Vic and Bob’s House of Fools won’t be renewed for a third series, the BBC has confirmed.

A BBC spokesperson told the Radio Times: “BBC Two and BBC Comedy would like to thank Vic, Bob, [producer] Lisa Clark and everyone else involved in making House Of Fools, but after two fantastically inventive series the show won’t be returning.”

The sitcom, which also starred Daniel Simonsen, Matt Berry, Dan Skinner and Morgana Robinson, launched on BBC Two in January 2014 with 1.2m viewers – but that figured had halved by the end of the six-part series.

The dip in ratings led to rumours that the madcap sitcom could be axed after just one series – though it was eventually renewed despite the disappointing numbers.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Mortimer simply posted: “FOR SALE House of Fools wotsit wig £8:00 #houseoffools

Vic and Bob’s live tour, 25 Years of Reeves & Mortimer: The Poignant Moments, opens in Glasgow in November, with dates in Newcastle, Sheffield, London and more.
