An online campaign has been launched to save Vic and Bob’s House of Fools.

BBC Two axed the sitcom after two series last week, leaving fans of the surreal sitcom angry and disappointed.

And one fan, Clare Shearer, has launched an online petition to save the show.

Addressing the BBC’s head of Comedy Commissioning Shane Allen, Shearer wrote: “I beg you, please don’t allow House of Fools to be axed from the BBC – it’s the only show on TV that has me crying with laughter.

“With so many mundane formulaic programmes on the BBC that could be scrapped without anyone even noticing, it just seems criminal to cancel further series of this programme which is so clever, witty and downright bonkers.  Besides which, they’ll never get new jobs at their age!”

The sitcom, which also starred Daniel Simonsen, Matt Berry, Dan Skinner and Morgana Robinson, launched on BBC Two in January 2014 with 1.2m viewers – but that figured had halved by the end of the six-part series.

The dip in ratings led to rumours that the madcap sitcom could be axed after just one series – though it was eventually renewed despite the disappointing numbers.

A BBC spokesperson said: “BBC Two and BBC Comedy would like to thank Vic, Bob, [producer] Lisa Clark and everyone else involved in making House Of Fools, but after two fantastically inventive series the show won’t be returning.”

Vic and Bob’s live tour, 25 Years of Reeves & Mortimer: The Poignant Moments, opens in Glasgow in November, with dates in Newcastle, Sheffield, Manchester, London and more.
