A Geordie comedy film is to get a hometown DVD launch thanks to an online fundraiser.

Fans helped The Stagg Do smash a crowdfunding campaign to get the film BBFC classification and on to DVD for distribution.

The film will be screened at a special Stagg Do DVD launch party at the Tyneside Irish Centre, with musical entertainment from local band Marriott Lane, one of the unsigned acts who have songs on the film soundtrack.

The 6 November launch party is open to the general public and tickets are available from the film website.

After blasting through a Kickstarter target of £4000 only 2 days into a 30 day campaign, The Stagg Do went on to raise over £7000.

Gateshead-based filmmakers FNA Films, headed up by Zahra Zomorrodian and partner James DeMarco, now plan to screen the film at venues across the country.

The film, nicknamed The Geordie Hangover, stars Craig Conway (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) and Bill Fellows (Downton Abbey, United) as well as stand-up comedians Lee Ridley (Lost Voice Guy) and Si Buglass, alongside two newcomers Martin Paterson and Andrew Stagg.

A blurb for the film reads: “A camping and fishing trip is not what Pob has in mind when he  books legendary gentlemen’s club The Cock’s Inn for his best mate, Staggy’s stag do.

“The group ends up lost in the wilds of Northumberland, dodging aggressive wildlife and a man they believe to be the ‘Mad Butcher of Cockenwaithe’.

“It seems doubtful the lads will make it to the Cock’s Inn, never mind Staggy’s Wedding.”

Tickets for the DVD launch are £5, from thestaggdo.com.
