The production company that pioneered Harry Hill’s TV Burp are once again delving into the clip show format – this time for BBC One. Avalon Television are working on a new comedy panel show format called Trumped!, where three comedians battle to ‘trump’ each other by finding the funniest videos.

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll told journalists at the National Television Awards: “I write for our audience, not the critics.” He added: “I don’t write something that will be really clever and somebody in such and such a newspaper or such and such a magazine will like.” Which is a good job, really.

O’Carroll also revealed that filming on the Mrs Brown’s Boys film will begin in September.

Sitcoms Pulling and Gavin and Stacy are to be piloted in the US on ABC and Fox respectively.

The results of the Comedy.co.uk Awards 2012 have been announced, with Miranda, Hebburn, Horrible Histories, QI, Fresh Meat and I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue all picking up prizes. Details.

Speaking of Miranda Hart, she’s writing a new book about her dog. Seriously. It’s called Peggy and Me.

BBC Two have postponed the second part of Funny Business, the documentary series about the comedy industry. It will now be shown Saturday 16 February instead. A BBC spokesman said: “We have moved the remainder of the series to a later Saturday night slot where the available audience will be more suited to the programme’s subject matter.”

Chris Addison is making a new, six-part sitcom for Sky Living. Trying Again is about what happens to a couple after an affair.

According to a list compiled by Rolling Stone magazine, Louis CK is the funniest comedian on the planet. However Daniel Kitson, widely regarded as one of the top British stand-ups, was only 46th in a top fifty list dominated by American comics.

Last but not least, Jerry Seinfeld is making a hip-hop album. Word.

That’s all for this week, folks. Check back every Sunday morning for another brief round-up of the week’s paper talk and comedy chatter.
