Hebburn creator Jason Cook is to make a rare appearance on Tyneside next week.

Cook will headline Creased Comedy’s show at The Berkeley Tavern in Whitley Bay on Friday night, joining Peter Brush, Nick Cranston and former Giggle Beats New Act of the Month Lauren Pattison on the bill.

The show represents a relatively rare appearance in the North East for Cook, who had taken a short break from stand-up while writing and filming the second series of the BBC2 sitcom.

And Simon Buglass, of Creased Comedy, says he is delighted to be bringing the sitcom star back to Tyneside.

He said: “I’ve been a fan of Jason’s work since I first started comedy.

“It’s great to see a local act getting the credit they deserve and Jason is one of the best around. I know the Whitley Bay crowd are going to love him.”

Cook is one of a number of high profile comedians to have appeared at The Berkeley Tavern in recent months.

Reginald D Hunter and Dana Alexander have headlined the past two shows – and according to Buglass, there are more big names in the pipeline.

“I’m so pleased with the level of acts we’ve managed to attract to the venue,” he said.

“We’ve already got Jason Cook and Ray Peacock booked into our Whitley Bay club this year and if I manage to secure some of the acts we’re in talks with, The Berkeley Tavern could well become one of the best comedy venues in the North East if not the country.”

He added: “Whitley Bay used to be a thriving area of the North East but over the last few years the decline has been rapid.

“Creased Comedy would love to play our part in trying to rebuild the area and hopefully securing high level acts will only serve as a great way of getting people to once again spend their weekends at the coast.”

Tickets for Jason Cook’s appearance at The Berkeley Tavern on Friday 14 March are available to buy online, priced £10. The show starts at 8.30pm.
