The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle has announced a series of summer shows from stars of the Edinburgh Fringe.

The comedy club on High Bridge has confirmed full-length shows from the likes of 2014 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Bridget Christie, Stewart Lee, Josie Long, Dylan Moran, Andrew Lawrence, Tony LawPhill Jupitus and Danny Bhoy throughout August.

All in all, The Newcastle Alternative, as they’re calling it, will feature more than 150 acts across 34 days.

The Stand general manager Richard Turner told the Evening Chronicle: “We’ve talked about doing it since we opened – bringing a flavour of the Edinburgh Fringe down to Newcastle.

“It’s really something to celebrate. We’ve had all the big names here doing their own individual shows, but to have them all coming in such a short space of time, it’s really great for Newcastle and the region.”

As well as the Fringe shows, The Stand will continue its weekend bills throughout August, as well as residencies from The Suggestibles, Sod The Tories, Steffen Peddie‘s Chat Show Thing and the Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz.

Turner added: “It was important for us to ensure the regular shows people have supported since we opened, remained on the programme.

“It’s also nice to see John Scott supporting Stewart Lee, which is a great way of combining what we have here with what will be coming down.”

Tickets for all shows go on sale tomorrow at noon.
