Review: Dead Cat Comedy, Sandbar, Manchester

Manchester’s cool (and unexpectedly labyrinthine) Sandbar is home to Dead Cat Comedy, the only crowd-funded comedy night in the city.

Dead Cat provides an intimate, inclusive atmosphere in a relaxed venue, and hosts some ace acts from around Manchester and beyond.

Run by the very funny and welcoming Red Redmond, Dead Cat is a friendly, low-key event featuring the likes of Harriet Dyer, Jake Pickford and new acts such as Ross McCaffrey.

What’s particularly admirable about Dead Cat Comedy is its dedication to giving very new acts good stage time. Not only is this is this a great place for established acts to try out new stuff, it’s also a brilliant opportunity for new comics to perform in front of a good audience.

It’s impressive that this ‘pay what you want’ gig is soon to enter into its third year. Comedy nights like Dead Cat not only provide a platform to both new and established acts, but give comedy fans in Manchester the opportunity to have a laugh for peanuts on a Monday night.
