Mr. Bean is to make a comeback in a new sketch for Comic Relief.

Twenty five years after he first appeared on screen, Rowan Atkinson’s ungainly character will appear in a new short as part of the BBC’s Red Nose Day programming in March.

The sketch was filmed last week, though no further details have been released as yet.

The short will mark the second time Bean has appeared in Red Nose Day contributions. The character previously turned up in a wedding sketch in 2007; the first time Mr. Bean had appeared on television since his eponymous ITV series came to an end in 1995.

Most recently revived for a Snickers television advert, Atkinson has reprised his role as Mr. Bean for two films, an ongoing animated series, and a cameo in the 2012 Olympics’ opening ceremony, though has repeatedly ruled out any new series.

Dawn French’s Vicar of Dibley has also been confirmed as returning to screens for Red Nose Day, which will be shown in BBC One on Friday 13 March.

Red Nose Day will be screened on BBC One on Friday 13th March. More details about the night’s comedy highlights are expected to be revealed nearer the time.
