Over at Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival, our friends at Beyond The Joke have sponsored a series of talks and events exploring the contemporary issues in stand-up comedy.

In It’s A Punny Old World experienced pundits discuss the history of puns and how they have become an essential part of the British sense of humour.

The talk took place at the BBC Radio Leicester building on UK Punday, and was chaired by morning presenter Martin Ballard.

He was joined by comedians Tom Allen and Leo Kearse (the reigning king of the UK Pun Championships), Christie Davies, lecturer and author of the book Mirth of Nations, and author Henry Dawe.

Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival runs until 21 February.
