Two stars of the small screen are heading to Barnard Castle next week to celebrate four years of comedy in the market town.

Hebburn creator Jason Cook and Phoenix Nights star Justin Moorhouse will both be appearing at The Witham in Barnard Castle on Tuesday 1 July for a special night of stand-up.

The show toasts four years of comedy from the likes of Russell Howard, Chris Ramsey, Josie Long, Mark Watson and Russell Kane, who’ve all performed for Funny Way To Be Comedy Club since it was founded in 2010.

Peter Dixon, of Funny Way To Be, said: “Jason Cook was the headline act in our very first show in 2010.

“He’s now become recognised as one of the best comics in the UK so we were delighted when he was back in touch about performing his brand new show.

“The fact that he’s going to be joined by Justin Moorhouse, for our fourth anniversary and 50th event, makes it even more special.”

Speaking ahead of the show, Moorhouse said: “Me and Jason [Cook] are going up to Edinburgh for the Fringe and this time of year is all about previewing the shows, getting them ready, and tweaking, sweating, panicking and nearly giving up. It’s a lonely road but well worth it.

“To that end, Jason and I are helping each other out by doing a few previews together and giving each other notes.

“If we were theatrical types we might say we were directing each other’s shows, but seeing as though he’s a former Merchant Navy man and I’m a very manly kind of bloke we won’t.”

Tickets for Funny Way To Be’s fourth birthday show are on sale now, priced £6.
